View Full Version : Mechanics 24 hour cycle setting: 240 Mins

I finally had time to sit down and play for an extended time today and I like to play on 240 min cycles (the length makes night time insane)

Anyhow, I had been playing all day and noticed the clock in game said 1300 I thought that can't be right so I tabbed out to see how long I had been recording. 5 hours 50 mins. eh? not possible.

The 240 min cycle is running in real time (or maybe even a hair slower)!

I was able to reproduce the bug by just starting a new game and letting it sit for a while (so I could accurately gauge the time)

ps: sorry if I missed a post if someone else posted about it.

really can't edit my post it has only been like 25 mins.

Anyhow I forgot to mention I have it on 20% night cycle also.

Those are the only two settings I have changed

I tested this out a while back on 20% and 35% night. Both make a game longer than the stated cycle. If you have it set to 50% night, its pretty close to what you select.

I tested 1 hour of real life time playing against 240/35 and that was 2 hours in game time.

So definitely something screwy with the time scaling.

I really wish we could edit posts ;-).

Tested 60 min cycle at 50% it took 70 mins real time. so like nitnoid said 50% gets you closer to your set time.

Will look into it. I believe, if you look at the way its set up, the 240 is the length of day, the 20% would be 20% of 240, 48 mins, for a total of 288 mins/24 in game hours. But I'll look into it closer.

If that is how it should work then it is definitely not working right.

Per my above posts:
60 min cycle @ 50% should take 90 mins to complete by what you said. It took 70 mins.
240 min cycle @ 20% should take 288 mins. I don't have the exact figures but I had 5 hours in game time vs. 5 hours 50 mins recorded video footage. (real life time obviously)
240 min cycle @ 35% should take 324 mins. I timed it out as 1 real life hour vs. 2 game hours, that would be 12 hours of real time for a day cycle.

In game it reads "The percentage of night. A percentage of 50% means equal day and night lengths." If that is not correct then it is a non issue because fixing some tool tip text is trivial.

Because of this I assumed it would work more like this and perhaps it should?
60 @ 20% = 48 mins "day", 12 mins "night"
60 @ 50% = 30 mins "day", 30 mins "night"
240 @ 20% = 192 mins "day", 48 mins "night"

Some variance in the total time is understandable for smoother time scaling but as it stands now it is definitely not working as intended given your description and my tests.

Thanks for the fun game! keep rock'n,

I did some timing a while back so I'm not sure if it still applies to 9.0. With a 40 minute cycle and 35% night, the 24hr cycle was 55 minutes. With a 60 minute cycle, I hit 1 hour of real time at 12 in-game daytime cycle (7am to 7pm). I just thought there was some math going on due to the reduced night time percentage.
