Hey, I got my Arctic Silver 5 yesterday, I will get my main hardware today (Motherboard, CPU, SSDs). I sure hope this system will not be DOA or find out in 3 months that it will not boot due to a Mobo, CPU or Memory hardware issue.

I lost my last system when the motherboards bios would not boot without replacing the CMOS, so I decided to flash the bios and that killed it completely. It was a 24/7 PC and almost never needed to rebooted, so if I was to just take out and replace the CMOS battery every time I had to reboot, I would still have that PC. One of those WTF was I thinking situations.

For you and I, this 9700K is about the best you can get for gaming, it ranks about #3 in best gaming CPUs. So this would be a great choice you made for a gaming CPU. I have done some checking around and I believe you should really get a Z390 Mobo, it has good M2 SSD support and has good quality Vcore components and cooling, which is good because my last PC I had, the Vcore was always 5-10 degrees hotter than the CPU itself and I laways got a little pissed that this was going on with a premium motherboard from Asus.

So from what I have read and watched on YouTube (other than ****ing the the President way too much) is:

    1) 8700K or 9700K - Is #4 & #3 respectively in CPUs for gaming
    2) Z390 is the best Chipset you can find for your Socket 1151 (300) series Mobo and can be picked up for about 150.00-200.00 and definitely worth the price.

So, with a i7 9700K @ 4.7Ghz on all cores (which is the spec from Intel Turbo 2.0 anyway so it really would not be overclocked), DDR4 3000 dual channel kit of 32GB, (2x 16Gb Sticks) Cas 15 with XMP 2.0, 2 PCI Express x4 SSD 500gb (Samsung 970 Evo) and a GTX 1080 this will be by far the best system I have had in 7 years.

Can't wait to benchmark this puppy, if it actually posts - I keep my fingers crossed.

Actually, the Mobo that I had in my wishlist was a Z390 lol.

MSI PRO Z390-A PRO LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Though this one is only $130. But it supports 8th and 9th Gen, so not sure what the higher costing ones actually offer in difference aside from price lol

Well I built my new PC.

    Intel Core i7-9700K
MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON LGA 1151 (300 Series)
    2X SAMSUNG 970 EVO M.2 2280 500GB PCIe Gen3. X4, NVMe 1.3
    CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000
    My old GTX 1080
My Old Lian Li Case From 2012

Here it is: https://i.imgur.com/A2RWoW7.jpg the side window is off so you can see some of the cables routed which looks terrible but when the panel is on you cannot see any of the routed cables. its no custom RGB system with fancy watercooling, the case is an 8 year old Lian Li, but it still looks nice when the glass panel is on.

I recommend the CPU/Heatsink fan I got which is a Noctua NH-U12S 120x120x25m with 2 fans on each side, it comes with 1 fan but has a clip to put an extra fan. I got no further than 72c after 1 hour of prime95 so its a good setup. Of course I have 3 120mm front intake fans of which 2 are high speed and 1 120mm high speed rear fan and 2 top 1400mm fans with no obstruction from the cables so air flows through well.

    update ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This PC is amazing, I cannot wait until you get into your PC gaming thing, maybe I could host a server and we can kick some zombie ass together.

I got to tell you this setup runs 7 Days to Die like I cannot believe, the FPS are butter smooth on all High settings, even in the city I get no lower than 50 FPS.

Yeah, I was planning to have my PC before Thanksgiving week. I always take that week off, and would've gave me plenty of time to adjust and enjoy it. Now I'm hoping that with Black Friday I'll get lucky with some deals lol

I was looking forward to finally having the painting system, and the ablitity to adjust the xml files to increase the crafting list. I've constantly had to try and be creative to change the look with the limitations of blocks on console to have a visual variance. Got old staring at nothing but reinforced concrete lol. I'm actually about to abandon my current game and start a new map and for the 1st time use creative mode just so I can "craft" a few blocks like the machinery/consoles in the bunkers, to the simple drop ceiling block that's closest to black in color. But I really hate the idea of using that mode, so it's taking me quite a hurdle to convince myself I won't be cheating to get those blocks since what I'll use is all cosmetic.

But I digress, Im hoping Black Friday/Cyber Monday hits me with some very good deals that I can capitalize on and speed up my process of converting to PC. Cause I'd be down to kill some Zombie's with you.

I am using the A18 update just to test things and I noticed it is a bit more FPS like (if that is a thing). I died a few times already getting dumb and not paying attention, one time it was so dark that i just could not see without the flashlight, but you need to select the weapon to attack so as soon as I got the weapon selected I lost track of the enemy.

All in all It seem OK I guess, so far, but it is a learning curve I have to get used to, like the crafting quality, I have no Idea what contributes to quality levels, it used to be main Intelligence points, but now I have no Idea because there is no tool tip to tell what you need to do to make better equipment. Also infection is really easy to get and can lead to problems if not taken care of quickly, I had to raid a Shamway to get some honey just to kill the infection and lost a lot of health and almost died doing it.

If you get this CPU and a RTX 2060 or RTX 2060 Super, you will have no problems running the game, believe me. The CPU does get hot so you will need to have good airflow and case fans as well as a good CPU cooler, but the Zalman should do you justice in that department. Just keep in mind the heat from your CPU and GPU and your PC will kick ass.

I get 50-60 FPS average in A18, but the temps go up to 65c which is fine but any higher than 75-80c may be a problem in the future, I just need to dust out the system every month or so to ensure good temps. the TJ max for this CPU is like 100c, this being the max temp Intel specifies for the CPU so I guess even 80c or so would be OK but it still seems a bit too hot for me running 80c or more. I was thinking of setting all cores to the Intel 4.6Ghz all core turbo boost default speed by turning of turbo boost, but the performance is fine the way it is, and the guys here on the forum will not help with a question about this, so I gave up.

It is fun to paint your base, I like to have a condo look to my living quarters and different paint on the floors in different areas of my base like the forge and cement mixer level, the storage room level, the garden on top and so on, you can really get crazy painting your base when you get the paint and a paint brush. I have yet to use dye on anything, I will have to check that out sometime.

Well my MSI board is defective so I have to RMA it back and I decided to go with a Gigabyte board instead for more USB ports and more Sata ports, it really sucks but it is not hard to replace the boards. It was running like a champ for about 1-2 days, yeah figure that, flippen ridiculous.

I decide to buy the 3 year extended warranty this time and I suggest you should do that as well if you can afford to.

I actually deleted what I wrote because it was too easy to go on a rant regarding A18 lol. But yes, A18 has definitely become more FPS/Looter. Yes, there is crafting, but they've removed some items, like Asphalt and Jail Cell Doors (pisses me off to be honest, I love those doors), and the fact they locked Q6 to simply looting is ignorant.

I'll simplify what I originally wrote by saying this, TFP are basically 5 year olds throwing a temper tantrum over the last 2 Alphas. Proof of this is every single change they've made. Nothing original, but mechanics to Only counter how we play. They simply can't handle that gamers are able to make the game easier or rather find sucess. So they made every zombie a damn Olympic high jumper since we could remove the bottom ladder. They made the spider zombie a damn distance jumper that'll make spiderman jealous since we created drop zones and prevented them from ever reaching us by using railing off the side of the buildings. They lowered block durability then created this stupid demolisher who blows up like a mini nuke to instantly destroy half your base. When others enjoyed bunkers, they reinstated the digging mechanic.

OK ok, I'm headed into a rant, so I'll just stop there lol. I just want to play the game that the majority of us are here for to begin with. A16 is perhaps the last time it was nearly perfect...

Anyway lol, I looked forward to the painting system. I hate that I had to build double walls just so it was strong reinforced concrete on the exterior, but styled inside with Adobe white, or cobblestone (my only real crafting option for semi black/dark color). I finally started a new game yesterday and put it on creative mode, so now it'll be interesting to be able to have a larger option to build/style my bases/home.

That sucks it went out in you. It'd be my luck the damn thing will explode on me lol. Ahh, was so close to a PC lol.

But it's alright. 7d2d is taking a slight backseat for awhile. I decided to get Death Stranding and started playing it Sunday. Without a doubt, it's like art, and extremely difficult to stop.

As for crafting better quality, I can't remember exactly, but I do believe it's under Intellect, Advanced Engineering? I noticed they combined some of the stuff together. If memory serves me right, I believe it was linked with the perk that enables you to craft forges, then workbenches, etc.

I finally caught up to recent videos on the only guy I watch on YouTube, so I've seen A18 more recently. Looks amazing, and I really do want to play it, but still ranting internally at some things lol

Well the last time I played A18, I did notice something very important and that was, OK Its day 4 WTF do I do now? I have so many questions about what to do, but the main problem now is that bloodmoon is 3 days away and I am not prepared at all. The house I am using for storage will in no way provide me safety on day 7 and I have no ammo to speak of. I have no real direction seeing how damn near everything is changed, If I loot a POI, I will lose more ammo, which is about 15 7.62 rounds, 30 blunderbluss ammo and some iron arrows.

The same thing happened in A17 but not as much as A18, in A17 things were somewhat the same as A16 so the learning curve was a lot easier to take, but in A18 there are so many changes I am baffled about my direction of what to do strategically from this point and that point and well you get the idea.

From what I've seen, they've attempted to force everything to be centered around the Traders.

That said, with 4 days before blood moon, hit a trader and do various jobs. If low on ammo, try to take buried quests, and hopefully you've found a junk turret, cause apparently when you find buried treasure, they spawn zombies now... yay weak mechanics.

You should be able to stock up on ammo via the Trader. Again, everything is centered around that now and it's dumb as ♥♥♥♥.

For the horde itself, any decent POI or half collapsed building will do. Elevated position with a pit below, junk turret to help aid, and it shouldn't be too bad. Just reinforce with whatever you can, even if it's just upgraded wood, any additional support is a bonus. Day 7 horde shouldn't be to extreme.

This is partly why I'd want to play A16 and no further. The game was survival, had me looting most days if I wasn't grinding for resources to build. And I didn't have to participate in the horde night if I chose not to. Choices, that's what makes games fun in my opinion.

Well I got my GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS PRO LGA 1151 (300 Series) hooked up today and so far so good: 100_0141.jpg

I prefer the Gigabyte board over the MSI except the bios is a little harder to understand and the onboard audio is a bit lacking.

I forgot to save my save folder and formatted it to install windows with the new motherboard, but the cool thing is I started at a better location and I know a little more of what to do in the A18 changes before bloodmoon day 7.

Yeah, my 1st experience with the game was mostly running around trying to learn the controls with a buddy. The concept was easy enough, but the actual mechanics wasn't known till further down the road. Like structural integrity lol.

I did start a creative game, amazing start. Placed exactly where I wanted to be, found a workbench, forge house, air drop gave the minibike schematic (ah A15/A16 days for PC lol). Even got a mining helmet. But... now I'm debating about deleting it and start a new game. I thought I wanted to build my base in a Red Mesa since I never have before, and now that I'm in one, don't really want to now lol.

I'm wanting to build something truly massive, like a large fortress border with 4 main hub sections with roads crossing through. I thought I'd want to do that with the red mesa, but then I remember about respawns... they really need to add in something where we can secure additional locations aside just where our bed is at.

I guess you got stuck with Navezgane on the PS4. The Red Mesa complex was in the A17 Navezgane but I wanted to go with a custom map so I scrapped Navezgane and did a 8K map with Nitrogen before exploring the Red Mesa complex.

This a great reason to get into PC gaming, the sheer amount of mods and custom things you can add to your game so easily in the PC version of 7 Days to Die and other PC games. I have a folder on my hard drive with a massive amount of mods for all sorts of games from Simulation to Strategy to FPS to RPG and all others in between, a good reason for you to get a large capacity hard drive when you can, the folder I have storing these mods, maps and custom content is 570GB with over 250,000 files and over 10,000 sub-folders collected for about 17 years.

You can still play however you want on the PC, there is no need to be stuck with A18 if you do not want to and you can go back as far as A11 if you really want to, although I suggest to give A17.4 a go if you can, it has some really cool features that do not go too far off of the usual A16 version like A18 does. A18 feels like it was completely overhauled from the ground up and that may be good or bad depending on who you talk to or watch playing.

The location of the Red Mesa in Navezgane was never appealing to me. Not a fan of living right next to wasteland. But Red Mesa's can spawn in RWG maps, just extremely rare. But it's like the Prison, especially when I was still new, I thought it would've been great to overhaul. But with time, I've come to the mindset of not wanting to build in existing POI's because of the spawning aspect. Yes, a bed will prevent that, but when I play a game, I really want to build multiple bases across the region. That's one reason why I really hope when I finally make it to PC, they'll have added in a way to claim multiple locations at the same time. A limit obviously, so you can't just claim every building in the game, but at least 5 claims would be great in my opinion. Especially on the map sizes you can have on PC, I'm so jealous of you man lol.

I've searched for some interesting designs of real houses, and there's two Cliffside buildings I want to replicate and modify to be further unique. Finding the ideal locations on a map that provides me all I seek however, is the hardest part of it all.

I ended up talking to a kid at a walmart the other morning after work for nearly a hour, and we ended up on 7d2d. Like I told him, the game is indeed fun for what it is. But if you don't create some personal long term goals, it can become stale at a certain point. He too thought about the game with a friend on the PS4, I tried to convince him of going to the PC version, but to no sucess. Has a PC, but won't use it because he felt it was too complicated (especially if errors occur) and console was simply easier. Kinda agree console is simplified in that regard, but damn, having a PC will just give me motivation to learn...

The closest I've come to my end game goals was a previous game, I built a mansion just slightly south from the main hub city on an island (had so much fun building that), along with a centralized forge/workshop at bed rock. The plan was to create various bases and connect them all. I think I'm on day 105ish, and it's still my most impressive game for me. I have ridiculous amounts of resources, and can build anything, anywhere, the only reason why I stopped was the only snow biome was a sliver running horizontally from the main hub city. Enough to build a base, yes, but for an immersion aspect of being in a snow biome, sadly no. Depressing really, I was so proud of myself. 1 death and only because the SE city had a road that dipped into the radiation zone. The city was in wasteland, so no visual clue that I was at the border.

I was really looking forward to A16 in console, as skyscrapers, paint, the removal of the Plains biome (only cacti should be in the damn desert lol), as well as the increase of the Navezgane map would've satisfied my wish list.

But that actually reminds me a question or two I wanted to ask. I've seen many rave over the Nitrogen maps, and heard they can be customized. Again, so jealous lol. Does that mean you hand craft it, or is it still random, but with the ability to simply select what you want to spawn? For example sake, if you wanted the entire north as a snow biome, the centralized area that green forest, and the south desert, is that possible, or is it just percentages of what you want? Same with cities, or even traders, do you place where they'll be, or just how many will spawn?

Finally, does the PC version still have a centralized hub city? I honestly can't remember if A16 had that in the RWG maps, or if they even kept that if they did.

Well a custom map can be edited with a image editor like Photoshop but only the biome map and the heightmap - think of the map as a color coded filter to what will appear where and the smoothness of the mountain and plains range - In which case you would paint the biome map to your liking by adding the color white for snow, green for forest and yellow for desert. This will allow you to add these biomes on your map to your liking. The heightmap controls the amount of height in a map like valleys and mountains and adds the smoothing from these areas by contrast, where white will be up (mountain) and black will be down (at sea level) The contrast from smooth rolling hills to cliffs would be the color gray between the white and black.

Here is an example of the biome map:
    https://i.imgur.com/SuYiyoN.png
The white, green and yellow define the colors of the snow, forest and desert respectively. So get out I MS Paint (which come with windows 10 I think) and I choose the color green with the color picker and paint some more green over the white, doing this added forest where snow was.

    Example of the heightmap:
    https://i.imgur.com/pVxaliq.jpg
So I do not like a cliff at one part where there is stark white to black, so I get out MS Paint and I smooth out the white and the black by making it more gray between the two, I just made a rolling hill where a cliff would have been.

There is a POI heightmap but I do not believe it to be a good thing to edit, not sure though, but you could ask on the forum about it.

These seem to be the only 2 editable parts of the Nitrogen map. The placement of POIs and such are viewable:
    https://i.imgur.com/qNtMQZe.jpg
The traders can be spotted as reddish/pink dots and the towns, farms, cites and other buildings are obvious.

Here are the option you can pick and some have up to 6 choose-able options like: none, few, medium, default, many and lots.
    https://i.imgur.com/Tzlt8ZV.png

It may be difficult to understand the "map" thing as being not really a road map but a visual reference of changes, I have been used to the term "map" in my days learning 3D graphics programs as well as using level editors for different games in the late 90s and early 2000s, where a map could be a texture map, or a bump map (which is really the heightmap in Nitrogen) or even a procedural map, which is controlled by adding numbers or other options (which would be the Nitrogen main interface) rather than an image. but not really the literal term of map as a roadmap in the real world.

Now this is really only from what I know about the tool and you could find out more on the forum post. I did adjust the heightmap once and added a lot of valleys, but that may not even be correct, because I only did it as a test and I did not really to keep the map to explore it completely.
