    Is food too common?

In my single player game i have a giant surplus of food. I mostly eat the cooked food because it is easy to get more of, and i have the perks to prevent food poisoning.I also have one perk point in living off the land, but stopped putting points into it because i don't need to. I put the point in it because i assumed i would be needing more food, not for seeds.

So far it seems, that with the exception of a handful of people, food is pretty common. Maybe canned food loot should either be dialed back or zombies attacking animals should be brought back into the game. Maybe both? Because at the moment i am end game and have almost three crates full of food. It's like i eat better in the apocalypses then i do in real life. I understand that part of it may be due to the perks that make it safer to eat also making it so that you don't need to eat as much.

If zombies attacking animals is brought back, then maybe have the zombies eat the animal, and become feral as a result? that would be kinda neat.

Play on 75% loot abundance, I am trying a game on that and finding food in cabinets is almost a celebration due to how rare it is. Loot on 100% though is far to generious across the board. Though anything lower than 100% seems bugged right now causing containers that only drop 1 thing usually (Like small ammo piles) to be empty pretty much everytime.

Too much canned food, and too expensive farm plots that yield resources for food not worth making. Just eat some canned food until you get bacon and egg recipe, and your set. No use in spending points in cooking and living of the land. The points costs and farming costs is simply not awarded with worth while benefits. Once the cooked food give proper advantage, and farm plots gets affordable, this might change.

I'll be "that guy" on the other end of the spectrum.
Stable build, I was in constant hunger state, almost looting non stop until day 14 where I remember dig quest give some food. And this is with that book that give extra can food in loot, didn't find can foods, a lot of can though (it made me thought that the book is bugged and give empty can instead of can food). Food supply is stable now, and loot food seem more fair now.

I have mixed feelings on this. I eat only fresh food, because i have the iron gut perks and only got food poisoning once, but at the same time why eat the prepared food when i have tons and tons of canned goods? I also have hundreds of vitamins. Maybe wellness needs to be brought back, but maybe have it be an xp boost for when you are at max satiation? I realized this when i made 13 fish tacos last night, to go with my 5th stack of beef stew.

Sounds like the rng reallly hated you for some reason that run. I get my runs like that too where rng just refuses to co-operate with me at all. Never with food though, usually its other things in a18 like getting a chem lab schematic, or the cement mixer one (I play 0 int builds). Day 12 in current game trader still has not stocked a cement mixer or chem lab schematic or the made workstation, I hope I get lucky on the day 13 restrock with at least one of them. Trader has a chem lab in the poi so I been using that one for now so its not a total loss.

Part of my success may be because i am playing navesgane. I am also keeping everything vanilla for the most part. I did change the horde night settings to 30 days however to: Test to see if that actually works, and 2: it is more attune to the real luna calendar than the weekly full moon. However just to make sure i don't slack off, i did make the settings to 64 zombies. I also set them to nightmare run.

Horde night really makes this game. I know people talk about the looting being great, but without a weekly horde night to look forward too, things are just not as much fun. So after it hits i am going to start tapering it down back to 7 days then play around with the randomizer settings.

Im a16 I used to skip horde night entirely as I felt it was just a waste of resources. In a18 though? I want horde night as its a big exp chunk in one night.

I found that in a18 building is the better way to get xp. one layer of concrete wall is like 10k. Also tunneling. Not only are my trader tunnels giving me tons of stone for concrete, but i am getting resources too. I just made 6k funpowder the other day for bullets and shotgun shells. This was made from materials mined in the tunnels. Tunnels are more important now than ever because concrete is harder to make and gas is rare. So nothing is wasted. Also i like to neaten the tunnel up with concrete plate walls and a ceiling, and those give xp when upgraded.

In general, I think loot is a bit too OP in this Alpha. You can already get AK47s in your second week by looting T2 POIs. However, food and water have been too common ever since I play this game.

I've been playing with 25% xp/loot, and I've used the Nitrogen tool to make a 100% wasteland map. It really turns the game into a true survival experience, snakes are a regular spawn for 2 cooked meals each which I save up for when I get vitamins, otherwise I'm living off canned food. Slowing the leveling helps make the playthrough last longer and early game you want those perk points to really count on survival before going towards combat and recipes.

You know what is a great XP boost?

Venturing into cleared POIs. Are you placed in a city (or near) and you slowly explore each and every POI, looting and taking everything there is, in most cases clearing a path through the barred shortcuts? Get back into those POIs after a couple days and slaughter everything that walks, going faster each time as your equipment gets better and better.

An upgrade to that scenario is having a POI clear zombies or POI retrieve satchel quest repeatedly in one POI. Clear everything from the place and engage the marker to "start" the quest, resetting everything in it. New loot, new zombies. WIN-WIN.

These two situations are what really bothers me in 7DTD. Hell, i don't have to have any loot respawn, but after several days the Zs come back (free XP, even if they're tougher), not to mention loot and Zs respawn in a questing POI. I would love an option to turn it all off or better yet, to have it strictly in vanilla. It's really unimmersive to clear the surrounding buildings of your base or the place you loot, to come back days later and need to be cautious because it's again full of sleepers...

And no, i never used the first scenario (although i know it exists), but i did try out the second a couple times.

It is. And i donīt wanna set everything to 75 or 50% only because of the food. Maybe gonna start xml editing for that.

The problem with all posts like this is that you are playing solo on a private server so you have all the resources to yourself. The experience of players in larger groups, or on public servers where there is direct competition for resources may be very different from your own experiences. In addition, since you are playing solo like this you can easily fix your issue by lowering Loot%.

Hence the answer to all such questions along the lines of "Is there too much of X in the game?" is usually: NO. There isn't.

Or to pull up one of my favorite and most over-used quotes, "Just because YOU have have a sandwich does not mean world hunger doesn't exist"

There is no way you can live on Bacon and Eggs in A18. Nests have been nerfed to hell. Even on 100% Loot, eggs are pretty rare now.

p.s. Zombies do fight animals in A18. Just thought that was worth mentioning.

In previous alphas you did well by looting nests for eggs while passing by.
In A18 I spend some time actively searching for nests. In combination with some canned food bacon and eggs is still a potent source, at least untill the farm is running. Of cause nests got a nerf but you find them all the way it's still a nobrainer to get enough eggs if you just look for them.
