Exclamation Crash / Terrain rendering issues survey (Linux / OSX / Windows)

    Hi everyone,

in this thread we will try to gather some information to further pinpoint the current crash / terrain issues. Please don't post in here if you are not affected (unless posting for a third person you know that can not / does not want to post). Also please make sure to follow the following guidelines.

    Additional testing

Linux / OSX crash on program start
If you got the crash issue when starting the program on OSX / Linux please download the Unity test build below and execute it to see whether this is affected too. Please try with different resolutions as well as the fullscreen toggle. If there's different results for different settings please describe them.
    • Linux
Run the executable with the parameter -show-screen-selector to bring up the resolution dialog
      Log file location: ~/.config/unity3d/DefaultCompany/LinuxGlTest/Player.log
    • OSX
After unzipping right click on the app and select "Open" while pressing the Alt key
      Log file location: <homefolder>/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log

If it does ever crash please append the log file.

    Windows crashes
Please test the 32 bit Windows build too, download instruction can be found here. After downloading start the executable manually from the download folder while being logged in to Steam in the normal Steam client.

    How to reply
    1. First of all upload a log of a crashed instance to pastebin (see section "Log files" of this sticky for more details)
    2. Copy the text from the following quote and paste it to your post
    3. Fill in the appropriate information (on Linux please add for the "GPU driver version" if it's an open source one or the proprietary one)
    4. If you found any workaround for the issue that worked for you please describe it shortly and add a link to the post that first suggested this workaround to you if one exists

Issue type: <crash on program start / crash when entering game / missing terrain>
    OS: <Windows / Linux / OSX> <version> <32 / 64 bit>
    GPU:
    GPU driver version:
Log of crash: <link to your pastebin>
Tested without EAC (Windows only): <yes - no change / yes - works / no>
    Tested 32 bit client: <yes - no change / yes - works / no>
    Worked in Alpha 13: <yes / no>
Same issue in test tool: <yes / no>
Log of test tool: <link to pastebin>

How to get GPU type / driver version

    Windows
    NVIDIA card:
Open NVIDIA Control Panel, select Help -> System Information from menu and you'll get a dialog like this:
    nvidia-cp.jpg
GPU type "GeForce GTX 650" and driver version "364.51" are highlighted.

    AMD card:
    - Missing description -

    Linux
These commands might get you the version:
    Code:
    inxi -v5 | grep GLX
    Example output:
    Code:
                GLX Renderer: GeForce GTX 960/PCIe/SSE2
GLX Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 364.12 Direct Rendering: Yes
    - OR -

    Code:
glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version string"
    Example output:
    Code:
OpenGL version string: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 364.12
Driver version in both examples would be "NVIDIA 364.12", GPU is given with the first command as "GeForce GTX 960".

    Mac OS X
Open a Terminal and execute these commands:
    Code:
    system_profiler SPExtensionsDataType | grep -i "geforce:" -A 16
    system_profiler -detailLevel full SPDisplaysDataType
Example output will look like this if you have both an Intel GPU as well as a dedicated NVIDIA GPU:
    Code:
        GeForce:

          Version: 10.4.2

this is not a full report as requested but perhaps a usefull hint anyway:

    OS Ubuntu 15.10 AMD R7 360 3.0 Mesa 11.3.0-devel

Got the same texture bugs as described so i switched back to 13.8. And now i got all those new characters to choose from.
The gfx settings were as in a 14.1 install, so i got only Bloom activated at 1st launch. All textures are fine but when u die the character gets silver / grey as in the 14.x

Best thing is the frame rate went up from 25 to over 50 with the same settings.

Perhaps it helps if not plz ignore. Thx for the this great game anyway

    Issue type: missing terrain

    OS: Linux 64 bit 4.4.6-1-MANJARO #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Mar 19 06:00:37 CET 2016 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    GPU:
GLX Renderer: GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST/PCIe/SSE2
GLX Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 352.79 Direct Rendering: Yes

Log 64bit: (not crash but missing textures)
    http://pastebin.com/6CJHDwPp

[Another Bug: (missing ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/thierry/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so)
64 bit version is in /home/thierry/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_64/gameoverlayrenderer.so
    Simple drive-by fix?]

Tested 32 bit client: yes - no change

    Log 32bit:
    http://pastebin.com/cNYBDkXe

    Worked in Alpha 13: yes
    Log of test tool: http://pastebin.com/fZZgZ8CR

Test tool seems to only open a test window - not the game itself?
Anyway, worked in 32bit and 64bit, -show-screen-selector always brought up the resolution dialog, but I never had a crash/wrong resolution problem etc. in the first place. Just the known missing terrain textures bug.

BTW, tested with different -force-glcore parameters
-force-glcore21 to -force-glcore31 has the missing terrain bug
-force-glcore32 to -force-glcore45 has that and also other broken shaders (pink sky etc.)

Soo, I guess the problems are with old-style (OpenGL2.1) shaders and Unity?
Don't you need to rewrite them anyway with the new "unified OpenGL system" for Unity 5.4 and up?
Heard that Unity 5.3.4 also fixes a lot of OpenGL-Problems, maybe this one too?

Note: Had to grab log while game was running. A crash that happens every time I exit the game overwrites the log with an error.

I have another Linux box using Slackware 14.1 64 bit with the 3.10.17 kernel, nVidia 650. It has an older nVidia driver (sorry don't have access to the box atm) and it is doing the exact same thing with respect to missing terrain textures.

UPDATE: nVidia released an updated Linux driver yesterday. This driver does NOT fix the missing terrain problem.

    Worked in Alpha 13:
Test tool : works as intended, both 32bit and 64bit (made the driver or X11 crash when I opened it through the file manager once, couldn't reproduce)
    Test tool log : http://pastebin.com/dQErvGJg

Ran 7dtd with gltrace once, it could detect some gl context switch issues, which certainly could be a cause for the following issues :
    Spoiler:

    Code:

    4320: warning: no current context
    4323 @1 glDeleteObjectARB(obj = 0)

EDIT : After uninstalling the proprietary driver and switching to the open source radeon driver, the famous missing terrain issue pops up and the driver crashes as soon as I change graphics settings in game. I'm surprised by how fast that driver works.
