An indie company that had all of their promotional and marketing support provided by one of the largest game company’s in the world. Frees up a bit of time and money when you don’t have to promote your own game.

Hello games hardly does any kind of marketing. The fun pimps interact more with there customers way more then hello games. Hello games made there own game engine. They know how it works that and planning was probably a good chunk of why the there update was done so well.

Still gonna disagree with the weak "you are wrong" strategy with no points listed to the contrary. Like I said I have played both games extensively and they are nothing alike. If you're breaking it down to "you gather stuff in both games and fight enemies" then fine, you win smh

Hold up cowboy, he was polite you got borderline aggressive.

If you want examples I will willingly give them to you:

-Empyrion and 7 days to die both run on unity
    -both are voxel based
    -both have levelling systems
-both have simple but brutal AI at times
    -both have small dev teams
-both release alpha's and experimental branches
    -one lacks a workshop integration
-both have quite extreme server hardware requiresments for multiplayer
-ones multiplayer max functional players is extremely small
-both require extensive work to maintain in terms of server managers and backups
-both have configurable files for multiplayer but I will grant you that 7dtd xml's ♥♥♥♥ over empyrion's yaml's
-Butttt once xml's are changed you get banished to the modded list which puts you at the mercy of patient players that bother browsing.

I am also curious mate, why did you say nobody could get their bases back, did you not have a proper backups drive for your hosted empyrion server? Was it a dedi or hired? that makes a big difference. Because I have seen people say they ran a server and the extent of it was them checking their balance for monthly charges (i s**t you not lol).

Anyways those are the similarities and I did have a massive giggle when KingSlayerGM quipped back at the sarcasm from Crater Creator asking about game examples (99.999% of people who ask for examples like that never expect an answer).

Not here to upset the balance but am here give the examples that were asked for.

I would rather wait a year for a finessed new look at a game then have world breaking updates every week or two. E8.2.1 for Empyrion was so ridden with bugs that ENTIRE PLANETS would lose their POI's, bases players spent hours and hours building only to log in one day and it's not there and there's no way to get it back. Also, Empyrion is convoluted at best to mod and 7DTD makes it a total joy to alter their vision to suit a preference or request. There are layers to happiness, Empyrion has fewer layers IMO.
I think you also forgot the great floods of alpha 10 in 7dtd, where towns would spawn inside lakes, you also have people who spend 10's of hours to get perfect bike parts only to merge/sink into a mountain while riding it and lose it to dirt. Then you had the hatch and xmas hat crashes of old which left servers unplayable for a few days.

I think you are viewing one of these games through rose-tinted glasses my brother.

Edit: Also you mentioned losing bases and the inherent sympathy felt for players due to evil empyrion updates.

I present you with this (from my friend who no longer plays):

I think it's a bit much to condemn a game but certain things still happen and thus some things still ring true.

You’ve gotta have patience to see an indev game through to completion. I have no doubt that The Fun Pimps will finish this game. It also won’t surprise me if it turns out to be a 7 year development arc. Tweedle’s friend lost patience. Doesn’t mean he might not try it again and enjoy it when it finally does get done.

Empyrion is a great game. Empyrion had distant terrain long before 7 Days did and it was amazing at the time. It was the first voxel game I ever played that gave a vast landscape to view. I’ve enjoyed playing it and I’ve lost patience with it for a time but recently returned to it and am having fun again. I’ve gone months without playing 7 Days because I got tired of it. Always enjoyed returning to it though.

People can return to these games later and they do. Despite the long cycle for A17 I am confident that when the update hits there will be lots of returning.
